The Birthday Boy
I am not a huge birthday person. I think it’s great to feel extra appreciated every once in a while, so I think that is a fantastic reason to celebrate birthdays, but I also think it is easy to get carried away with “birthday months” and giant expensive birthday parties. I certainly have gotten carried away a few times, specifically with Carter and Monroe’s first birthday parties, but I have always said that those parties would be few and far between. So, true to form, Rusty and I decided to throw Monroe a very modest, stress free, but extra cute, birthday breakfast.
After we put the kids to bed on Friday night, Rusty and I whipped out the balloons and streamers and went to town on our kitchen. It is tradition in our family to make a black and white poster sized print of the birthday kiddo. Side note: these prints only cost about 6 bucks from FedEx and they make fantastic party decor. Just bring in a digital file of the picture you want to print and ask them to use the blueprint printer. It will not be a high quality print, but it is perfect for a throw away party decoration.
Instead of a birthday cake, we decided on birthday pancakes. I have an amazing pancake recipe I will definitely share with all of you as soon as I have time and I added some cream cheese frosting and sprinkles to top them off. They were so yummy that no one even missed the birthday cake. And of course, there were presents. Mommy and daddy bought Monroe an awesome battery-powered Mario Kart. I’m a little obsessed with it myself.
After breakfast and presents, we all headed out to the Canadian National Exposition. It’s basically a fancy way to say “we went to the fair.”
Getting there was a little bit stressful seeing that it was our first time and we had no real plan of action, but we made it. All of us had a fantastic time exploring the Expo, hanging out with GWiz, Pop, and some of our friends and celebrating the birthday boy. I would say that Monroe’s birthday was a complete success.
Of course it is cliche to say that time is going too fast, but it really is going too fast. I cannot believe that my baby is already two! He wears big boy undies, dominates his scooter, and loves loves loves food. Monroe, I am so excited to see what this next year brings us! Mommy and daddy love you!
Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose.
