Our Little School Girl
Our Little School Girl
So our little school girl Carter started school! And we had a successful first week. I am both excited and sad at the same time. I am so excited for her to try new things, spend time with new people, and start learning things that she hasn’t yet learned at home. But just like every mom before me would say, it is so bittersweet to watch our babies grow up.
I didn’t cry a ton when I dropped her off. If you know me at all, I’m sure you don’t believe me. For those of you that don’t know me, I cry daily and pretty much anything can set me off. I might be little overly sensitive. I honestly didn’t cry a lot though, I am really looking forward to one on one time with Monroe, so I had that to keep me bright-eyed. I did, however, cry the hardest when she gave her stuffed penguin, Hugsy, a big hug and kiss and said, “Bye Hugsy, I’m going to miss you.”
As I have mentioned before , Ontario has a 2-year kindergarten program that consists of jr. kindergarten and sr. kindergarten. Children from both levels are mixed into the same classroom. Jr. kindergarten starts the year the child turns four and because Carter turns four this December, she needed to start JK this year. JK in our district is full day, five days a week. Like I’ve also mentioned before, Carter is attending a public Catholic school. Although we are not Catholic, we are Christians and we felt that since private Christian school isn’t an option for us, due to high costs of tuition, Catholic school is the next best option.
I do have to admit that she seems to love it. She was disappointed on Friday when she figured out that there would be no school for the next two days. I know over time the excitement will fade, but for now, I am so happy for her.
The Catholic school in our district has a uniform. It is more of a strict dress code than a uniform, but the color options are limited to navy or black bottoms and grey, white, maroon, or navy tops. I was a little bummed at first, but I am excited to work within the guidelines and still make sure my girl looks on point. She also gets a “civvies day” once a month and she already had her first one. She was a little disappointed when we went school clothes shopping and she couldn’t get anything pink or purple, so on “civvies day” she could not wait to whip out her pink tutu.
So, I asked Carter a few questions to document her thoughts at this moment in time and I want to share the cuteness with you.
Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?
A: Umm, a mommy. (Swoon.)
Q: What is your favorite color?
A: I have so many colors, but right now it’s pink.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Cantaloupe
Q: What is your favorite thing to do?
A: Play on the iPad. (For a “zero screen time” mom, this makes me cringe.)
Q: Who do you love the most?
A: Daddy. (Of course, I love him the most too.)
Q: What is your favorite part of school?
A: Eating snacks. (Who’s isn’t?)
For Carter’s safety, we have blurred out the name of her school in the pictures.
Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose.
